Property Owner - Tree Wood Disposal

In an effort to reduce power outages, NOVEC maintains its right-of-way corridors by cutting down or trimming trees which are diseased, infested or pose a significant risk to service reliability. While NOVEC's vegetation management crews cut hazardous trees at no expense to customers, crews do not remove standing trees, heavy branches or trunk pieces from a customer’s property – these are the responsibility of the property owner.

NOVEC encourages property owners to use qualified contractors to safely remove dead trees and offers the following suggestions for customers considering the removal of large wood debris:

  • Do not dispose of diseased or infested wood in areas with otherwise healthy trees.
  • Do not attempt to cut or move wood without proper tools, training and safety precautions.
  • In Prince William County, residents can take tree waste in pieces less than 24 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length to the PWC Balls Ford Composting Site at 13000 Balls Ford Rd, Manassas, VA.
  • Private contractors can be hired to remove wood. Examples include, but are not limited to:
    • JL Tree Service; 703-359-4444
    • Tysons Tree Service; 703-849-9188
